THE GHOST OF KETCHUM

The Ghost of Ketchum explores the life and legacy of Ernest Hemingway, one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. The play follows Re x Taylor, a writer who is working on a book about Hemingway's character development and how he created some of the most memorable protagonists in literature. Rex is invited by Sarah Matthews, an old college girlfriend and the curator of Hemingway's house in Key West, to stay at the home and help with his research. However, Rex soon discovers that Sarah is not who she claims to be. She is actually Catherine Barkley, one of Hemingway's fictional characters from “A Farewell to Arms,” who has come to life and fallen in love with Hemingway. She believes that Rex is Hemingway reincarnated and wants to rekindle their romance. Meanwhile, Rex is haunted by the ghost of Hemingway himself, who speaks to him through his voice-over and reveals his secrets, fears, and regrets. Rex also faces the wrath of Nick Adams and Krebs, two other characters from Hemingway's stories, who have also come to life and seek revenge on Hemingway for creating them and abandoning them. The play is a dark and twisted tribute to Hemingway's genius and madness and a commentary on the relationship between writers and their creations, readers and their expectations, and fiction and reality.

VOICES OF A REVOLUTION

In a landmark courtroom drama, the United States government has brought a federal case against the Board of Lady Managers, the influential women's committee that oversaw the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The prosecution alleges that under the leadership of Bertha Palmer, the elite socialite chairwoman, the Board engaged in sedition by promoting "radical feminist" viewpoints that threatened to undermine the nation's patriarchal foundations. Summoned as key witnesses are Julia Grant, the widow of President Ulysses S. Grant, struggling to maintain her voice and identity, and Ida Lewis, the famous lighthouse keeper celebrated as America's "Bravest Woman." Though from vastly different backgrounds, the three women quickly recognize shared experiences of persevering against systemic sexism in each other. What begins as character testimony exposing ingrained injustices soon evolves into a greater intersectional reckoning as Grant, Lewis, and Palmer unite their voices into a unified indictment of patriarchal oppression. Their bravura performances deconstruct the malleable "truths" society has long accepted about gender roles, female objectification, and institutionalized denial of women's equality. By the powerful finale, the legal verdict becomes irrelevant – Grant, Lewis, and Palmer have irrevocably struck a blow that shatters sexist norms and vindicates centuries of silenced revolutionary voices.

A Rainy Night in Hollywood

On a stormy night in 1943, Hollywood star Rita Hayworth, stranded in the rain, awaits a studio driver. George Thompson, a World War II veteran turned driver, arrives. What begins as a routine ride home is a pivotal moment in their lives, a moment that will change their destinies forever. As they navigate the rain-slicked streets of Hollywood, Rita starts to open up to George. She shares her frustrations with the film industry, her controlling husband, Orson Welles, and her desire to be seen beyond her beauty. George, in turn, reveals snippets of his life - his girlfriend Lizzy, his struggles to readjust to civilian life after the war, and his unfulfilled dreams—a connection forms. Rita finds in George, a person who sees her for who she truly is, not just the glamorous movie star. George finds in Rita, a person who values his thoughts and experiences. By the end of the ride, Rita offers George a job as her driver and consultant for her new venture, Beckworth Corporation. The next morning, as George drives Rita to sign the contracts for Beckworth, they discuss their hopes and fears for this new chapter. Rita shares her vision of telling meaningful stories while George grapples with the sudden change in his life. Through flashbacks, we glimpse their pasts - Rita's journey from Margarita Casino to Rita Hayworth and George's harrowing experiences in the war.

Six months later, we find them at the premiere of Beckworth's first film, "The Loves of Carmen." The company is off to a promising start, and their lives have changed significantly. George has moved into a new home with a now-pregnant Lizzy, while Rita divorces Orson. Their friendship has deepened, each providing support for the other through personal and professional challenges.

Two years after Beckworth's formation, George and Rita sit on a hill overlooking Hollywood, reflecting on their journey. George reveals he's been writing his screenplay about a veteran's struggles, inspired by his experiences. Rita, in turn, expresses her desire to tell her own story. They discuss expanding Beckworth's reach and nurturing new talent in the industry.

The story culminates five years after that fateful rainy night. George and Rita, once again on their hilltop, look out over the Hollywood they've helped to change. George has become a successful screenwriter, and Beckworth has made a name for telling important, meaningful stories. They discuss bringing George's daughter, Mary, into the company, continuing their legacy of storytelling.

As they sit there, they reflect on the unexpected friendship that has shaped their lives. They recognize how they've pushed each other to grow, heal, and become better versions of themselves. In each other, they found a business partner and a true friend—someone who sees them for who they are and believes in them unconditionally.

The play ends with George and Rita deciding to write their own story of two unlikely friends who changed each other's lives and Hollywood. As they look out over the city, ready to face whatever comes next, we're left with a powerful message about the transformative power of friendship, the importance of being seen and understood, and the impact that is sharing our stories can have on the world.

Watch Your Pronouns

"Watch Your Pronouns" is a poignant exploration of acceptance, understanding, and the evolving nature of familial love in the face of gender identity issues. Set entirely around a park bench, the story unfolds through conversations between three main characters: Cliff, George, and Sarah.
Act 1 introduces us to George, an older man struggling to come to terms with his grandchild Austin's recent coming out as transgender. He confides in his friend Cliff, who we learn has a painful history with LGBTQ+ issues, having lost his gay son years ago due to his lack of acceptance.
As the play progresses, we witness George's journey from confusion and resistance to gradual understanding and acceptance. Drawing from his past mistakes, Cliff guides George with wisdom and empathy. Their conversations cover various topics, from the fear of societal judgment to the complexities of medical transitions.
Sarah, a mother of a transgender daughter, joins their regular park bench meetings, adding another perspective to the ongoing dialogue. Her journey of acceptance and her challenges provide additional depth to the narrative.
Act 2 sees significant character development. George begins to educate himself about transgender issues and makes efforts to support Austin. Cliff confronts his past through a heartfelt letter from his deceased son, which he shares with the others. Sarah delivers a moving monologue about her experiences parenting a transgender child.
The play culminates in a powerful scene in which all three characters realize how far they've come in their understanding and acceptance. George, in particular, has a breakthrough in recognizing that his relationship with Austin is fundamentally unchanged—his grandchild is still the same person he's always loved.
In the final moments, Austin surprises Cliff by thanking him for helping George understand. This touching encounter underscores the play's themes of intergenerational understanding and the power of open-minded dialogue.
"Watch Your Pronouns" tackles complex issues with sensitivity and humor, emphasizing the importance of listening, learning, and loving unconditionally. The park bench serves as a metaphor for the common ground where people can come together to share, understand, and grow.
